With 8000 series features packed into in a slightly smaller model, the Allis-Chalmers 6000 Series tractors provided a glimpse into the future of tractors. Equipped with turbocharged engines, planetary final drives, wet disk brakes, differential lock, straight-through axles, larger rear-tires, and front-wheel assist, the 6000 Series Tractors had everything customers in the 1980s were looking for. Unveiled in 1985, the 6080 proved to be a capable tractor, having great performance and possessing enough size to serve as the primary field power on many farms. Allis-Chalmers’ 433TI engine gave the 6080 exceptional torque rise for such a well-performing tractor, delivering 83.66-PTO horsepower.
Replacing the successful 780 Harvester, the 782 Forage Harvester was added to the line in 1967 with improvements and a very similar appearance. This harvester was a breakthrough in agriculture, being that it was a right-side cut machine. The 782 had one-, two-, and three-row attachments available and had many useful features of its own. These features included a modified cylinder location which simplified feeding the crop into the machine, a 6 1/2-foot pickup attachment with 64 steel pickup fingers that hardly missed a crop, and a rope-controlled feed reverser made operating the machine safer and more efficient.
